Position Overview

The successful engineer in this role provides sustaining engineering and support for NEC Energy Solutions released products and global install base. This position serves as the primary technical resource to assist both customers and service team members to effectively identify and diagnose product and site issues. This role requires engineering resolution of significant customer and product issues by working independently and collaborating in cross-functional teams.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as customer facing technical resource and work in collaboration other service and product engineering as needed to provide effective end user support to resolve system performance issues.
  • Provide sustaining design engineering for existing products.
  • Lead and complete engineering design and process improvements to reduce service cost and to achieve delivered performance targets.
  • Recommend and coordinate software/firmware upgrades for the sites.
  • Analyze and document field returns to identify root cause and corrective actions
  • Provide technical support for containment and resolution of product issues in the field
  • Provide requirements input and feedback as a key member on the NPD (New Product Development) team

Qualifications

 

Position Requirments

  • Must have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings in relation to physical systems.
  • Ability to interface well with team members in a cross functional environment.
  • Must be able to perform duties with general direction, receiving only general guidance with respect to overall objectives.  Work is usually quite independent of other team members.
  • Familiar with power semiconductors, microprocessors, power supplies and communication circuits
  • Expertise troubleshooting hardware and software compatibility issues.
  • Integration of and configuring system components.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of computer network operating systems and Linux navigation skills.
  • Experience with troubleshooting complex system-level software issues.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking background, especially routing and communications protocols.
  • Working knowledge of communications protocols such as CAN, Modbus, TC/PIP, DNP3
    Experience with computer network operating systems

 Education/Experience/Work Environment

  • 8 + years direct exposure in related fields of analog, power and digital circuit design
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Willingness to travel, at times, 25% domestic and international
  • Flexibility with working overtime as needed and being on-call at off-hours a must.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and passport and be willing/able to drive and fly to field sites as needed.

 Desired (Not Required)

  • Systems level experience with battery and power management preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish or other second language
  • Familiarity with complex controls systems, Real-Time Operating Systems, firmware design a significant plus.
  • Engineering experience with energy storage and power conversion systems
  • Knowledge of generation, transmission and distribution in electric grid systems (Electric Utility based experience is highly desired)
  • Structured problem solving experience or Lean background
  • Computer Network engineering certification preferred.
