Responsibilities

 

Position Overview

The Senior Sales Engineer-Grid (SEG) supports sales productivity and deal flow by securing the “technical close” in complex solutions. The SEG is responsible for supporting all phases of NEC Energy Solutions sales process, including but not limited to: opportunity qualification, reviewing and preparing comments on specifications and tender documents, responding to Requests For Proposal (RFP), proposal development, customer submittal preparation, providing equipment functionality and capability reports to the sales force and acting as technical liaison between the outside sales team, Applications Engineering, and Production.

 

Primary responsibilities

  • Support sales team in defining opportunity fit & potential, as well as on proposals and solutions to customers
  • Proactively scope the technical solutions required to address customer requirements, assess customers’ met and unmet needs, and recommend solutions that optimize value for both the customer and NEC Energy Solutions systems.
  • Secure input from all necessary stakeholders within the customer’s company and other industry sources that have technical impact including Independent System Operators. Adapt solutions, as necessary, to ensure appropriate support for NEC Energy Solutions and the customer’s end goals
  • Secure from the customer’s technical staff the commitments needed to ensure a deal’s “technical close”
  • In coordination with the client’s technical representatives and responsible agencies, secure the technical information required to ensure not only the “technical close”, but also future solution deliverability, e.g. interconnection requirements
  • Translate customer’s RFP to a technical requirements document
  • Write a technical proposal in response to the RFP
  • Support customer presentations and clarification.
  • Support sales in tendering and bidding process

 

Qualifications

Specific Skills/Abilities

 

The SEG will need to manage all the technical aspects of the sales process. The candidate will work closely with the sales team to secure new business. The candidate will be expected to actively participate in day to day sales activities. As the technical liaison between the sales team and Applications Engineering, the candidate must bridge the gap between a successful commercial solution and a successful technical solution through diagnosis and resolution of technical issues. In order to thrive in this role, the candidate will bring a working knowledge of the electric power industry from both a products perspective and a customer requirements perspective.

 

Education/Experience

  • 8-12 years experience as a Sales Engineer, power systems engineering or similar
  • Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in Engineering, or related field
  • Professional Engineering license preferred
  • Experience writing complex utility scale construction proposals (for example: substation design and construction, power plant design and construction, etc)
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical issues
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize time with minimal supervision
  • Technical background, with experience in the electric power industry
  • Experience in any facet of electric power project development, including permitting, providing subcontracted services or equipment, engineering, or construction
  • Experience in utility capital planning and regulatory approval processes for regulated T&D projects
  • Familiarity with power systems engineering software including PSLF, PSSe, CAPE, Powerworld, or similar programs
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites in North America, Europe and Asia (>25%).
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and Solidworks
