Position Overview

The Quality Test Technician is part of the Quality Assurance Organization of NEC Energy Solutions, located in the Westborough, MA facility. The Quality Test Technician is responsible for supporting new product development as well as sustaining products through the development of sound test processes and support of DVT/EVT/pilot and production builds and troubleshooting. An effective Quality Test Technician will follow established processes to support product troubleshooting and use knowledge of engineering principles and quality tools to identify and solve problems that arise in the production process for both new product development and at contract manufacturers. This person will perform failure analysis on non-conforming material and will use sophisticated measuring tools, such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes, to determine if products function properly and according to design specifications.   This person is also responsible for the generation of the appropriate documentation, records, and reports.  


Primary Responsibilities

Production support:

  • Daily support of manufacturing activities.
  • Act as point of contact for ad hoc failure analysis in support of production.
  • Perform product troubleshooting and rework / repair of all products in the US and at contract manufacturers.
  • Perform Failure Analysis on products and document root cause findings.
  • Execute PCB-level failure analysis to determine component failure location and characterization.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of production and test equipment.
  • Maintain calibration of equipment and perform ESD equipment maintenance and inspections
  • Build tools, fixtures, cables, etc. when need to support manufacturing and tests.
  • Control, manage and document non-conforming material.
  • Non-Conforming Material Report creation, troubleshooting, failure analysis and administration as needed. Be available for Non-Conforming Material support and analysis and disposition.
  • Must be capable of collecting, analyzing and reporting data and test results.
  • Product and equipment validation.
  • Identify and recommend continual improvement opportunities for quality systems 

          Testing support:


  • Plan, support and monitor the testing of materials and products to ensure product quality.
  • Convert test specifications into test work instruction.
  • Conduct operator training for product testing.
  • Test escalation path to provide expertise and support when needed.
  • Performing preventative maintenance and repair of manufacturing test equipment.

  • Experience and knowledge of cell commodities and battery systems required.
  • Experience with quality problem solving tools and quality methodologies
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and 14001.
  • PCBs, Reading and Understanding Schematics
  • Using Electronics equipment such as power supplies, loads, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, hand tools
  • ESD awareness.

  • Associates degree in engineering preferred. Mechanical and electrical experience required.
  • Battery cell technology preferred. Prior experience with energy storage or power systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with electrical circuits and PCBs required.
  • Experience and knowledge of IPC 610 and 620.
  • Experience with failure analysis, root cause investigation and corrective action.
  • Minimum of 7 years of troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001Quality System.
  • Strong computer and software knowledge: Microsoft Office suite, Oracle, Agile (or similar PLM software tool).
  • Effective communication, reporting and presentation skills.
