    Position Overview

    The Product Manager, Power Conversion is responsible for full lifecycle management of AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion technologies used within NEC Energy Solutions’ grid-scale (GSS®) and distributed (DSS®) energy storage system product lines. Power conversion technologies, including a wide range of bi-directional inverter offerings, are key elements of advanced energy storage solutions. The Product Manager, Power Conversion, has broad responsibility for analyzing, defining, and articulating product requirements and capabilities across the wide range of energy storage opportunities, including grid stabilization, solar+storage, microgrid, behind-the-meter, and backup power applications. The product manager represents the voice-of-the-customer and market within the organization, drawing from a well-developed understanding of the power industry, competitive and technology landscape, and regulatory environment. The product manager is responsible for all internal lifecycle management activities, as well as being the power conversion technology and application subject matter expert for external marketing communications and support. The product manager must work closely with key internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance and influence within dynamic cross-functional teams.


    Primary Responsibilities

    • Understand and articulate the utility inverter-based grid interconnection regulatory and technology landscape across key global markets.
    • Specify power conversion technology requirements for differentiated current and future energy storage solutions across key market applications, including solar+storage, microgrids, and backup power opportunities in both front- and behind-the-meter environments.
    • Partner with NEC Energy Solutions’ strategic technology suppliers to develop compelling integrated solution offerings.
    • Monitor and where appropriate, participate in, key grid interconnect and inverter technology standards committees.
    • Support the entire product line life cycle for power conversion system components, from strategic planning to tactical activities.
    • Generate, publish, and maintain Market Requirements Documents based on specific market use cases to guide product development.
    • Drive product solutions across development teams (primarily Development/Engineering, and Marketing Communications) through market requirements, product contract, positioning, and launch.
    • Contribute to the ongoing product roadmap development for energy storage products.
    • Create Business Case Analyses to promote advanced product concepts into development programs while adhering to our Phase-Gate development processes.
    • Promote and differentiate the product for sales and marketing efforts, creating content as needed including brochures, datasheets, websites, and tradeshows, with the support of our marketing communications group
    • Monitor competitor and new technology movements in the marketplace and provide analyses and scenarios on competitor offerings for both internal and external (sales support) use.
    • Contribute to NEC Energy Solutions industry thought leadership via select conference speaking engagements, workshops, tradeshows, or other industry gatherings 



    Key Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Attitudes

    The successful candidate will possess both business acumen and technical understanding, ideally with a deep understanding of grid-tied smart inverter technology and the user/utility applications enabled by this technology. You will be capable of synthesizing crisp product requirements utilizing primary and secondary market research within a dynamic and evolving global market, and handling both strategic and tactical product management issues. You will proactively seek out resources across functional lines within and outside the company to advance your knowledge of market requirements and technology capabilities, and insert yourself where needed to stay in the loop in dynamically changing environments. You must be able to not only effectively communicate at all levels of the company internally, but also evangelize and promote our solutions to industry and the market. Proven success in a product management or sales/applications engineering role within the renewable energy (solar, wind, energy storage, and/or microgrids) markets is highly desirable.


    Education / Skills / Experience

    • Bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred) in an Engineering and/or Business discipline.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Technical Marketing, Sales/Applications Engineering, and/or Product Management professional.
    • Experience in the renewable power segment, including PV solar generation, T&D infrastructure, and/or microgrids, specifically with power conversion / inverter technology, is preferred.
    • Experience with grid-scale and/or distributed energy storage technologies is highly desirable.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Excellent teamwork skills, with proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize time with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced work environment.
    • Experience with public speaking is desirable.
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.



      • 15-20% overnight travel (domestic and international) to attend trade show, industry events, and customer visits is expected
