    Responsibilities

    Position Overview

    NEC Energy Solutions seeks a dynamic Engineering Manager to lead the Electrical Engineering Team.   NEC Energy Solutions Electrical Engineering Team designs, develops, creates, documents, drives and manages all electrical hardware for the new product development initiatives. In this capacity, the group handles new development for all products from small, individual battery packs up to and including major grid products. The group handles all electrical engineering responsibilities that cover everything from board design and layout, to large scale power system design, to design for safety and certification, to unique site one line drawings. A successful candidate will have excellent leadership, technical, organizational, and project level skills in the areas of new production development for commercial and grid connected power systems.  This position comes with a high level of visibility within the company due to the scale and the significance of the projects managed by this role.  There are three major functions required for a successful candidate for this position:

    • First and foremost is technical expertise. The individual must work technical details, plans and platforms for the electrical engineering discipline to show broad functionality. At times the individual will need to dive in and work on specific solutions/ programs or projects. The ability to set a vision for the electrical platform to show integration with future products is needed. Such platforms are expected to speed development of new products on the product roadmap and accelerate the extensions of subsequent or ancillary products.
    • Second is cross functional support and engagement with other Mgrs/ Dir/ VP across the company. The successful candidate must show the ability to establish plans, program requirements, resource loading and support.
    • Third, the individual must show the maturity and capability to engage with external representatives from both the Supply Chain and the Business Development sides. The individual will be the internal expert on electrical systems. As such the individual must be able to speak with authority to both our critical suppliers and to help sell our solutions to potential customers.

    Primary responsibilities:  

    • Lead Electrical Engineers responsible for project deliverables, for commercial and large-scale Grid Battery System new product development programs
    • Develop and manage internal budgets, plans, tests, and schedules
    • Electrical Engineering responsibilities include development and creation of new products, coordination of capabilities for safety and certification, product subsystem and potential system evaluation test
    • Electrical Engineering takes the customer specification and develops technical design requirements, creates the new design and develops test specifications and test plans for product demonstration.
    • Lead rapid identification and resolution of engineering and program issues
    • Define electrical engineering technical roadmap plans and platforms which are driven into the product programs. Successfully show the delivery of such roadmaps through their definition and flow into the product roadmap and its supportive effect on multiple products.
    • Integrate, manage and review the business impact as it revolves around cost, needs and requirements with the technical roadmap and its impact on product definition
    • Represent NECES at shows and conferences. Develop, author and present material for these shows and conferences that show NECES as the thought leader in our space.
    • Support customer visits as required for specific technical follow up and details.

     

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High-energy technical team leader capable of leading significant critical issues with high-value and customer visibility
    • Systems-level experience with battery and power management preferred
    • Structured problem solving experience (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, 7-Step…)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Engineering experience with energy storage and power systems
    • Hardware design experience with embedded microprocessor control is required
    • Knowledge of generation, transmission and distribution in electric grid systems is preferred
    • Familiarity with complex control systems, firmware design and understanding C code
    • Independent, detail oriented self-starter with a business acumen
    • Flexible and dynamic with an ability to thrive in a matrix organization
    • Ability to scale the ladder-of-abstraction to solve problems, and guide technical staff to solve problems at the correct level.

    Education/Experience

    • B.S. Engineering with MS/MBA desired
    • Experience leading technical teams with direct customer interface and deliverables
    • 15 years total experience and typically has 7 years in an Engineering Mgr area.
